Microbiology and Infection Biology

From the environment to the human body: Life-threatening pathogens coexist with helpful assistants - producing toxic compounds as well as nutrients for all living organisms. This Master's program will give you an excellent insight into the multifaceted world of microbes, providing fundamental knowledge in microbiology and infection biology, cutting-edge research and laboratories and a high number of hands-on courses.

Students will learn state-of-the-art molecular biology methods and bioinformatics. In addition, they can freely choose modules from different research areas. We strongly encourage to think outside the box or to specialize in areas related to current research topics such as the microbiome or the production of degradable bioplastics.

Furthermore, experimental work in our laboratories is planned, as well as training in scientific communication. Many of our faculty members are part of the Cluster of Excellence CMFI, a world-leading research consortium in infection biology and microbiome science, and the dynamic research networks in Tübingen give students the opportunity to contribute to the latest discoveries in the life sciences.

In short, this program provides excellent training for a career in academic research as well as in various branches of industry. Many of our laboratories offer PhD positions, giving the opportunity to continue your work directly in this highly interesting and rapidly developing field.
